When Did Synthesizers Come Out?

Synthesizers emerged commercially in the 1960s. The Moog synthesizer debuted in 1964, followed by the Minimoog in 1970, making them accessible to musicians.

Prior, experimental models like the 1955 RCA synthesizer existed but were lab-bound. The 1970s saw widespread release with affordable polysynths.

Digital synths came out in the late 1970s, like the Synclavier.

Their rollout transformed music production globally.
